THE IMMENSE MINORITY

We, who are no more than a few
of the immense minority,
demand to your lordships
a space.
A space and nothing else, sirs,
just a space,
where we can slowly promenade
and indulge ourselves with colours
beyond the black and white,
which are so much of the like of those who state without any shade
that the world exists juts to please their whims and desires
and subject us to the erratic anguish of their tantrums.

THE WEIGHT OF HISTORY

The wall of Berlin fell and took me, like it happened to everyone, by surprise.
I was not in Tianangmen or in pre-war Sarajevo.
I did not longer live in Madrid on 3/11 nor did I demonstrate in Genoa when the system showed its claws and murdered Carlo Giuliani. I knew of 9/11, like everyone, when I watched it on TV.
History is passing over me with the weight of a leaf. I am not even noticing it.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Kill me and make me famous,
grant to me the ephemeral glory of the news bulletins.
Make up a terrible crime, put my name on the newspapers
and you can settle for the initials,
because murders are alleged and dead are real,
except for the wars that turn the world upside down
and turn heroes into unknown, anonymous soldiers,
and turn those swine who sent them to death into generals.

JUST A DOUBT THAT I HAVE

The art must be crossed by life even if, in being so, it becomes unpleasant, just like life is. An artist’s works must lay bare his/her soul. If you understand his/her style you will understand his/her personality. That said, if someone writes on a paper what honestly he/she ought to write and that paper ends in a wastepaper bin after being thrown there by other person’s hands. Does his/her failure as an artist mean also his/her failure as a person?

It’s just a doubt I have.
