THOSE DAYS

Some days bend over themselves like universes imploding towards the antimatter.
Some days hurl themselves down in whirlwinds towards the gutters, which swallow them burping like mythological beasts.
Some days are dark and long and icy like a thousand boreal winters.
Some of my days were like that, not so long ago, and despite nobody can say without lying that he’s happy...

SUCCESS

If I you are not successful, it is maybe because you do not deserve it.
If you do not deserve it, it is maybe because you ran after it.
Even if you deserve it, you most probably will never be successful.
If you ever happen to be successful, it won’t matter if you deserve it.

BUT WE GREW UP

We are the generation that didn’t want to grow up. We discovered very early the mysteries of the night and soon we took its secrets as currency. In the dance floor we were elves and winged angels, at the bars we were insatiable ogres, we were fauns in toilets and satyrs in cars parked out of sight, vampires ever hiding from the sun. The world fell on top of us, and it was not exactly the one we had dreamed of, if we ever dreamed of a world beyond the present, we who didn’t want to grow up and believed that our lives would be a series of frozen instants, a never ending reissue of our best moments. We didn’t want to grow up and here we are, different from our parents but parents after all. Bellied, bald children who run away whenever possible, looking for glorious daybreaks never to come back, magic formulae whose names we have forgotten, jack-in-the-boxes whose keys we have lost, a world that grew up with us and, like us, is so fucking different that no one would be able to recognize it.

RESCOLDOS

EMBERS

Armatage Shanks and Kimerly Clark had already created a scene when I had not even dared to recount it. In 2000, that magic year one thousand times imagined, both were burning in a bonfire whereas I was just warming my hands up by it. I think sometimes that writers are far from being artists. We just keep a record of our surroundings. I do not know if literature gets me nearer to reality or if, quite the contrary, moves me away from it, conferring on me the alms of memory, letting me obtain pictures of bonfires which are just embers now.
