BUT WE GREW UP
We are the generation that didn’t want to grow up. We discovered very early the mysteries of the night and soon we took its secrets as currency. In the dance floor we were elves and winged angels, at the bars we were insatiable ogres, we were fauns in toilets and satyrs in cars parked out of sight, vampires ever hiding from the sun. The world fell on top of us, and it was not exactly the one we had dreamed of, if we ever dreamed of a world beyond the present, we who didn’t want to grow up and believed that our lives would be a series of frozen instants, a never ending reissue of our best moments. We didn’t want to grow up and here we are, different from our parents but parents after all. Bellied, bald children who run away whenever possible, looking for glorious daybreaks never to come back, magic formulae whose names we have forgotten, jack-in-the-boxes whose keys we have lost, a world that grew up with us and, like us, is so fucking different that no one would be able to recognize it.
