MONEY AND SOUL

MONEY AND SOUL

If you’re gonna let economic issues wrinkle your soul, cheap is the soul you are selling.

esperando florecer alguna primavera?

DADDY’S BOY

Oh, daddy’s boy!
You and your gloomy winter face.
You’re not handsome or ugly, neither silly nor clever.
The truth is, you’re completely clueless!
Honestly, daddy’s boy!
Can’t you see that you’re still picking the grapes
while the rest are drinking up the wine?
What secret do you keep, daddy’s boy,
waiting for some spring to blossom?
Your revenge shall be sweet,
one can already glimpse it in the horizon!
When your effort takes you away from these clones
you will wonder where did all those thugs go
and you will answer yourself, “They’re sweating in some crappy job,
living dull lives”.
They, in the end, will be in the gutter,
and you at the top of the world!

THE VAN

The rain caught Armatage Shanks and Kimberly Clark on their way back home, when they were crossing La Mancha’s green meadows after the rainy spring. The rain was pouring down like an awkward dance of pellets and there was a sheet of water boiling with violence on the highway. With nails of light, God was pointing randomly chosen spots in the infinite horizon and the van, loaded with furniture, pursued them slowly. There was a line of light blues beyond Honrubia, as if the sky map had been divided into two opposite countries. Shortly after they headed towards Valencia, the Mediterranean sun, although already far away, greeted them with the shine of the lives that have barely started.

THE RAT

That grey-haired rat

was lying with its guts out by the sidewalk.

I picked it up by its tail

to scare the girls from my quarter

and my mom rewarded my exploit

with a well-deserved slap.

That rat’s guts colours

were those of the flag.

The rat had died

in the street where the village died

and I, half of my face red,

went away to cry while the sun set behind the prickly pears.

ALL IS ROTTEN

All is rotten.
The laughs, the crying, the last word.
The songs of youth and those gatherings of friends that are already wakes for a formerly exquisite corpse.
All is rotten.
The chats, the silences
and that time which never stops moving
and, nevertheless, is rotten.

HIPNOSIS

HYPNOSIS

I liked to look at you while you were sleeping soundly as the victim of a session of hypnosis.

The fan in the ceiling and the afternoon’s light cast shadows on the nap’s back.

I was fascinated with your ribs’ grooves like snakes creeping for shelter into your belly.

From the street on fire came an Asiatic hubbub of toots, two-stroke engines and impossible accents,

while I patiently waited for you to open your eyes so we could invoke again flesh’s ancient mystery.

VERTIGO

What I thought was absurd are now truths that ordinary mortals accept. The attitudes I disdained as rubbish delight the common herd. All my visions about the future are shredded pools under the hoofs of the horses. I am not afraid when I look down, I see myself very close to the ground. It’s when I look ahead that I have vertigo.
